Chinese traditional song in interpretation of Polish-Ukrainian world music band. The Kangding Love Song was born in the 1930s in the Tibetan town Dardo (Chinese: Kangdin, Sichuan). The town is situated where the cultures of Tibet and China meet. It is divided by the mighty Dadu River and surrounded by over 50 majestic Himalayan mountain peaks, reaching six thousand metres above sea level. The song presents the simple story of a love which is not accepted by the girls parents because of the gap in status between the lovers. According to legend, a local singer agreed to help the young couple by composing a piece to persuade the parents to change their minds. According to UNESCO the Kangding Love Song is one of the ten most popular folk songs in the world. In the 1990s it also became the first Chinese music recording sent out with a NASA probe in search of extraterrestrial civilisations. The song has been performed by the greatest artists, including Placido Domingo: 2011, under the title Love Song for the Universe. Dominika Dyka is the soul behind the stylisation for the videoclip to Kangding Love Song and an artist whose works are currently storming the web. In her art Dyka pays great attention to the beauty and richness of Ukrainian folk culture. Slava Salyuk, a legendary Ukrainian jeweler, created the jewelry using coral beads, old coins and cross pendants. The band members are wearing historical costumes from Dawnij Narodnyj Odiag shop in Lviv, a place which collects traditional garments from various corners of Ukraine and traditional coats from Częstochowa Region in Poland. The main theme of the whole session was the meeting of various cultures - some of them very close to each other, like Polish and Ukrainian, some very distant and exotic, like the Chinese one which has mesmerised the band musicians during their concert tour in Asia. DAGADANA have been playing together for nine years. Since the very beginning their philosophy has been meeting and sharing art and music with artists from various corners of our planet, as well as being the ambassadors of Polish and Ukrainian culture. The band has already played in 22 countries! Two operators from Poland and Ukraine were invited to join the works. The whole project was looked after by Visual Heads Company from Poznań and their film director, Artur Przybylski. Meridian 68, the album recorded in Poland and China together with guest stars from Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Poland, was nominated for Fryderyk Award. It was also the best reviewed Polish album in World Music Charts Europe - a yearly ranking of the best world music albums selected by radio music journalists from whole Europe. DAGADANA signed a record contract with a Chinese record company 13th Month, as well as with one of the most important European record companies - Jaro Medien (publisher of such stars of the genre as Bulgarian Voices Angelite, Hazmat Modine, Hun-Huur-tu or Warsaw Village Band). A lyric from the Wielkopolska Region with a universal appeal: a girl catches her beloved talking to another and makes a jealous scene. She does not know if she can still believe his protestations of true love... We learnt the song from Anna Chuda a singer from Posadowa (Biskupizna Region) at the annual Tabor Wielkopolski (folk music and dance workshop) in Stara Krobia. Its a flirtatious song: the singers walk around the village and sing it to the girls. Biskupizna is a folkloric micro-region, covering twelve villages around Krobia (near Gostyń). From the 13th century to the 18th the area was owned by the bishops (Polish: biskupi) of Poznań, which gave rise to the name of the micro-region and its inhabitants: Biskupian (male) and Biskupianka (female). Na zaproszenie @Rock Radio prezentujemy najmniejszy koncert świata. Wybraliśmy utwór zespołu Voo Voo. Daga Gregorowicz kiedyś współprowadziła ich fanklub, jeździła na setki koncertów. Wujek Mikołaja - Mateusz Pospieszalski w Voo Voo gra na saksofonie i tworzy super szalone zaśpiewy. Większość tekstów Wojtka Waglewskiego Daga zna na pamięć. Nasz perkusista Bartosz Mikołaj Nazaruk za jednego z najbliższych przyjaciół upodobał sobie obecnego perkusistę Voo Voo - Michała Bryndala, z którym dzieli salkę prób (to musi być poważny związek). Ze śp. Stopkiem (najdłużej grającym perkusistą w zespole, którego rocznicę śmierci niedawno wspominaliśmy) odbywaliśmy wiele inspirujących rozmów. Największym cichym bohaterem tego zespołu jest BASISTA! Karim Martusewicz jest ojcem chrzestnym zespołu @DAGADANA . Gdyby nie on, nasz zespół nie rozpoczął by swojej działalności. Wpierw namówił Dagę, by pojechała na warsztaty International Summer Jazz Academy - Międzynarodową Letnią Akademię Jazzu do Krakowa, gdzie był wykładowcą gry na gitarze basowej. Tam Daga poznała Danę Vynnytską i Mikołaja Pospieszalskiego. Znajomość przetrwała i rozwijała się, by w końcu zamienić się w zespół. Karim zaprosił Dagę i Danę (na stałe mieszkającą na Ukrainie, czasowo przebywającą w Polsce w ramach stypendium Gaude Polonia) do zagrania koncertu w warszawskiej Coffee Karma (matko jaką oni mają kawę!). I to on jako jeden z pierwszych niezwykłych ludzi w naszej muzycznej przygodzie okazał nam wsparcie. Zagraliśmy dla was cover Voo Voo z pięknymi słowami, które zainspirowały nas do wybrania właśnie tego numeru. Zatem w zimny poniedziałek, w trakcie trwania pandemii, która dla wielu jest zamrożeniem różnych ważnych działań, chcemy Wam powiedzieć: JESZCZE WSZYSTKO BĘDZIE MOŻLIWE. Myślę sobie, że ta zima kiedyś musi minąć. Zazieleni się, urośnie kilka drzew. Niedojedzony chleb w ustach zdąży się rozpłynąć, a niedopity rum rozgrzeje jeszcze krew... Zimny poniedziałek gorącą stanie się niedzielą. To co niepozmywane samo zmyje się. Nieśmiały dotąd głos odezwie się jak dzwon w kościele, a tego, czego mało, Nie będzie wcale mniej... Choć mało rozumiem, a dzwony fałszywe, coś mówi mi, że jeszcze wszystko będzie możliwe. Nim stanie się tak, jak gdyby nigdy nic nie było. Polish-Ukrainian band DAGADANA with live session videoclip to the wedding song Grajo gracyki (which, in Kurpie dialect means musicians are playing). The musicians can be seen wearing splendid folk outfits. The band want, through their music and costumes, bring together two nations - Ukrainians and Poles. They say: We live together, right next to each other. There are more and more Ukrainian people in Poland, and we still know so little about each other! Dominika Dyka is the soul behind the stylisation for the videoclip to Grajo Gracyki song and an artist whose works are currently storming the web. Her headdresses are inspired by by traditional wedding wreaths from the Poltava region in Ukraine and were created by Treti Pivni workshop. Slava Salyuk, a legendary Ukrainian jeweler, created the jewelry using coral beads, old coins and cross pendants, all bound together with colourful ribbons from Hazy in western Poland. The band members are wearing historical costumes from Dawnij Narodnyj Odiag shop in Lviv, a place which collects traditional garments from various corners of Ukraine. Daga and Dana are wearing embroidered vests (corsets) from the Lviv region, decorated with beads. Mikołaj and Bartek are dressed in outer garments called serdak from the region of Hutsulshchyna in western Ukraine. A forest song from the Kurpie Region (in Poland), from the repertoire of Waleria Żarnochowa from the village Dąbrowy (near Ostrołęka). The piece is meant for singing in the open air, in the woods or fields. The Kurpie people have for centuries inhabited two Mazovian forests known as the Green Wilderness and the White Wilderness. This gained them special privileges allowing them to make use of the land. They used the woods for grazing cattle and bee-keeping, as well as gathering mushrooms and berries. They call themselves Puszczaki (forest people). The forest provides an excellent space for performing songs: each song carries for a long distance and then returns as an echo. The Kurpie singers have learnt how to take advantage of this and they can call one another with singing or when it is needed raise each others spirits... Kurpie od wieków zamieszkują tereny dwóch mazowieckich puszcz: Zielonej oraz Białej. Dzięki temu zyskali specjalne przywileje, zezwalające im na korzystanie z tych terenów. W lasach zajmowali się wypasem bydła, bartnictwem, a także zbieraniem grzybów i jagód. Sami siebie nazywają Puszczakami. Puszcza to doskonałe miejsce do wykonywania pieśni: każda z nich niesie się tu daleko, a następnie odbija echem. This how they express their longing for the past, where so many emotions were evoked when capturing a fleeting moment. 19584 frames; 816 film scans; 3 weeks of non-stop scanning; 136 film rolls; a drill-driver connected to 5 LOMOKINO cameras, repaired on a regular basis on the set and a whole team of music, film and fashion personalities. This is how the new single of the Polish-Ukrainian band DAGADANA (featuring the drummer Frank Parker) entitled Kartka dla nieznajomej (Postcard to an unknown girl) from the album List do Ciebie (A Letter To You) was created. The band entrusted the video to Maciej Szupica and Krzysztof Kiziewicz, a directing duet who knows no limits. This is in all probability the first video of this type ever produced. Connecting cameras to a drill-driver was the idea of Tomek Kluczyk and Krzysztof Kiziewicz. They were also the people who put this idea in practice. Working with the use of the unpredictable LOMOKINO technique was very risky and laborious, but the effect is astonishing. Kuba Dąbrowski and Dominik Danilczyk were chosen for the directors of photography, whereas the well-known performer and choreographer Leon Dziemaszkiewicz agreed to play an eccentric photographer. In the video he is accompanied by some personalities from the fashion world: Natalia Wątroba, Pamela Koleśnik, Magdalena Swat, Karolina Wodoracka, Szczepan Wasiak, as well as DAGADANA. Agnieszka Hodowana and Aleksandra Foka Przyłuska took care of the make-up while Elwira Rutkowska was entrusted with costumes. The whole project was supervised by the producer Adrian Pawłowski from FILM FICTION. The following organizations have been DAGADANAs partners in the project that includes the album and a concert tour: the National Audiovisual Institute, the Polish Post and the Polish Performing Artists Association STOART. The album has been created as a part of the 2014-2020 National Readership Development Programme. It has been supported, distributed and promoted by the label and booking agency Karrot Kommando. Powyższy utwór to opowieść z przymrużeniem oka o biedzie: oto ubogi starzec, nie posiadający niczego oprócz starej kapoty na grzbiecie, planuje kupić karetę, aby wozić nią swoją żonę i dzieci, zapewne liczne. This piece is a tongue-in-cheek story of poverty: here a poor old man who has no possessions save the old coat on his back, plans to buy a coach to carry his wife and children. But all he can afford is an old coach, full of holes. But even though its uncomfortable and a tight squeeze, and theres only gruel to eat, the most important thing is that the whole family are together. Because what counts most in poverty is to care for your nearest and dearest, and so the song seems in praise of the simple life. Poor peoples dreams are usually very down-to-earth. Plywe kacza po Tysyni/ / is a Lemko conscript song (according to some sources it comes from Zakarpattia). It has literary origins. According to the researcher Wasyl Sokol the original text was written by the Zakarpattian author and translator Wasyl Grendżoloju-Donski. The text employs an archaic trope: death, or passing into the spirit world, is juxtaposed with a duckling swimming across the river. This image had appeared earlier, eg., in Celtic and Ugro-Finnish epic poems (including the Finnish Kalevala by Elias Lönnrot). The song took on a new life and meaning during the Euromaidan protests in 2014. It first resounded at the funeral of the Belorussian Michail Żyznieuski. The favourite song of one of the first victims of the Ukrainian Spring, it was chosen for this occasion by friends and to the surprise of many it quickly achieved great popularity. Its new significance inspired a phenomenon as crowds sang it to commemorate all those who were killed in the Revolution. Later it became its unofficial hymn performed as a tribute to the Euromaidan activists (the Heavenly Hundred) and the other heroes who gave and are still giving their lives in the war in East Ukraine. A lyrical song from Podolia in Ukraine. It tells the story of a mother awaiting her sons return from the army. The man is alive and full of vigour, so the woman is overjoyed. Unfortunately the bliss is spoilt by a surprise in the form of... her newly-wed daughter-in-law. Our friend Hassibagen makes a guest appearance here. He plays the morin-khuur and sings with the throat technique. He told us that when he performed the song for the first time, he closed his eyes and felt transported back to his homeland in the Mongolian steppe. During DAGADANAs Autumn Asian Tour we had a great chance to visit Jeju Island in South Korea. On the top of the crater in the center of an Island we made a stop, sat down on a path and started to sing an ukrainian song. A w tomu sadu is a classic wesnianka a spring song (otherwise known as gaiwka, gagilka, jagilka, ryndziwka) or ancient Slav ritual song. Pieces like this were sung in the spring, whose arrival heralded the new year in the Slavic calendar. The season was greeted with joy and ceremony, with the accompaniment of song and dance. Wesniankas usually tell about the themes of agriculture, love and marriage, history or (in the oldest versions) cosmogony. See the lyrics below. . . . A forest song from the Kurpie Region (in Poland), from the repertoire of Waleria Żarnochowa from the village Dąbrowy (near Ostrołęka). The piece is meant for singing in the open air, in the woods or fields. The Kurpie people have for centuries inhabited two Mazovian forests known as the Green Wilderness and the White Wilderness. This gained them special privileges allowing them to make use of the land. They used the woods for grazing cattle and bee-keeping, as well as gathering mushrooms and berries. They call themselves Puszczaki (forest people). The forest provides an excellent space for performing songs: each song carries for a long distance and then returns as an echo. The Kurpie singers have learnt how to take advantage of this and they can call one another with singing or when it is needed raise each others spirits... Kurpiowska pieśń leśna z repertuaru Walerii Żarnochowej ze wsi Dąbrowy (powiat ostrołęcki). Utwór przeznaczony jest do śpiewania na otwartej przestrzeni, w lesie lub na polu. Kurpie od wieków zamieszkują tereny dwóch mazowieckich puszcz: Zielonej oraz Białej. Dzięki temu zyskali specjalne przywileje, zezwalające im na korzystanie z tych terenów. W lasach zajmowali się wypasem bydła, bartnictwem, a także zbieraniem grzybów i jagód. Sami siebie nazywają Puszczakami. Puszcza to doskonałe miejsce do wykonywania pieśni: każda z nich niesie się tu daleko, a następnie odbija echem. A lyric from the Wielkopolska Region with a universal appeal: a girl catches her beloved talking to another and makes a jealous scene. She does not know if she can still believe his protestations of true love... We learnt the song from Anna Chuda a singer from Posadowa (Biskupizna Region) at the annual Tabor Wielkopolski (folk music and dance workshop) in Stara Krobia. Its a flirtatious song: the singers walk around the village and sing it to the girls. Biskupizna is a folkloric micro-region, covering twelve villages around Krobia (near Gostyń). From the 13th century to the 18th the area was owned by the bishops (Polish: biskupi) of Poznań, which gave rise to the name of the micro-region and its inhabitants: Biskupian (male) and Biskupianka (female). Biskupizna still cultivates its folklore. Wielkopolska piosenka liryczna o ponadczasowej treści: dziewczyna przyłapuje ukochanego na rozmowie z inną i urządza mu scenę zazdrości.
