Empress Chung [2005]

Empress Chung is an animated feature film released in 2005, produced in both North and South Korea and directed by Nelson Shin. The movie is based on a Korean folk tale The Tale of Shim Cheong, about a devoted daughter, Shim Chung, who sacrifices herself to a sea dragon to restore her blind fathers sight. Her act of filial piety leads to her resurrection and transformation into an empress, reuniting with her father who regains his vision, with added animal companions like a dog, goose, and turtle to aid her journey.
