You notice it fast. You say something real, someone raises an eyebrow, and poof, there you go again. Back into the safe little play, where everyone smiles politely but no ones actually themselves.
And for what? To fit in? To keep things nice? Come on. Thats not friendship, thats an audition. Every time you adjust yourself a bit, you cut off another piece of who you are. Until theres nothing real left.
The funny thing is, once you stop pretending, something amazing happens. The wrong people just fall away. No fights, no drama, they just disappear. Like dead leaves in autumn. And whats left are the ones who get it. Who dont flinch at your sharp edges. Who stay, because of them.
Im at peace with that. You dont have to like me. But if I cant be myself, I dont need to belong.
