Homing pigeons werent just relics from WWIthey were vital in WWII. Silent, fast, and nearly impossible to intercept, they carried messages across enemy lines, from Normandy on D-Day to occupied France.
So vital, in fact, that over 30 pigeons were awarded the Dickin Medalthe animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross. Heroes like Royal Blue, who carried the first message from Normandy, Commando, who flew over 90 missions, and the legendary GI Joe, who saved over a thousand Allied troops from a friendly fire strike.
