One of WWIIs most persistent legends claims that the RAF once dropped a fake wooden bomb on a German decoy airfield.
The Germans did build fake airfieldsconstructed of wood and canvasand Allied pilots often marked them on maps with K for Kunst, meaning fake. But did someone really troll them with a wooden bomb?
No photos or official records exist, but postwar testimoniesespecially from French localssay it did happen. A wooden bomb, RAF markings and all, left on a wooden airfield.
So did it happen? Maybe. Maybe not. But in a war full of deception, this prank would have fit right in.
