British actor and 'A Room with a View' star Julian Sands has been named as one of two missing hikers in California's San Gabriel Mountains.

Sands, 65, was last seen in the Mount Baldy area on Friday evening and his family have heard from him since.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, 'severe weather on the mountain has been difficult' and air resources are limited, ABC 7 reported.

Sands is known for his roles in several films, including the 1985 feature 'A Room with a View,' 'Warlock,' and 'Leaving Las Vegas.'

It is unclear why Sands was in the area and if he had been hiking alone or with another person.

Sands was reported missing around 7:30 p.m. Ground crews responded and started searching the area.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, ground crews were pulled off the mountain Saturday night due to trail conditions and risk of avalanche.

Crews are continuing to search for Sands by helicopter and drones as weather permits.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department plans to reschedule another ground search when weather improves.

The 65-year-old actor was reported missing in the Baldy Bowl area on Friday evening, with searches by local authorities continuing over the weekend.

Sands was reported missing at 7:30pm on January 13, Gloria Huerta, a spokesperson with the department, tells CNN.

Mt. Baldy is located in the San Gabriel Mountains in San Bernardino County.

Search and rescue crews were on the mountain looking for Sands, but due to the severe weather and an avalanche threat, rescuers had to suspend their search efforts, Huerta said.

Officials continue to use drones to search for Sands, but are limited with other resources due to the weather on Mt. Baldy, Huerta added.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has recently warned hikers about visiting Mt. Baldy, where high winds and ice continue to make conditions dangerous.

In a post on Facebook, the agency said that over the last four weeks, search and rescue teams have responded 14 rescue missions on Mt. Baldy and in the surrounding area.

“These rescue missions have been for lost, stranded and/or injured hikers. Unfortunately, during these past 4 weeks, two hikers did not survive after falling and injuring themselves,” the post said. “The recent storms that brought the snow and ice conditions are not favorable for hikers, even those that feel they have a high level of experience.”

I live four hours away. I hiked Mt. Baldy on Memorial Day (end of May in the US). There were still patches of snow at that time.

Hiking it in an average winter would require technical gear and experience: crampons, ice axe, normal winter mountaineering gear.

This year, the snow level has been very high and conditions on Friday were terrible. All of California has been dealing with record-setting storms with rain and snow. Avalanche danger would certainly keep me away. Even on a small mountain in my area, an avalanche killed a man on Monday and there were earlier deaths in the Mt. Baldy area in the past 2 weeks. His choice is confounding to me and I do pray he is at peace. Even when I question the choices of mountaineers, I still understand their wish to challenge themselves and seek adventure. RIP Julian.

British actor Julian Sands' three children have joined the search for the missing actor, it's been reported.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star, 65, has been missing for five days in an 'extremely dangerous' Californian mountain range where two people have died in recent weeks, police in America have confirmed.

Julian's friends, including Two and a Half Men actor Jon Cryer, have said they are praying for the missing star, as police issue a stern warning telling other hikers to avoid the treacherous mountain.

The actor was thought to have been somewhere on the popular Baldy Bowl Trail, which climbs 3,900 feet over 4.5 miles to the highest summit in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Julian, who has appeared in hit TV shows like Elementary, Dexter and Smallville, was last seen on Friday in the Mount Baldy area of the range and his family haven't been in contact with him since then.
