We've long been told that breast is best. Generally though, that advice is meant to apply to babies … not a cup of tea.

Unless, it seems, you’re a Klass. Singer and model Myleene has revealed that her father used to enjoy his tea with a dash of breast milk – and that she has continued the family tradition.

Miss Klass, who has two daughters aged five and two, said she had offered her own milk to family and friends.

Her inspiration was her father Oscar, a senior officer in the Royal Navy, who used his wife’s breast milk to make his afternoon brew.

‘Come on, it’s normal,’ she said. ‘I made everyone try mine. It tastes just like those probiotic yoghurt drinks. Sweet – not as sweet as condensed milk.

‘I grew up knowing that he did that so it’s not weird to me. I sound like a happy-clappy hippy. Oh well, now you know. We’re that kind of family.’

The classically trained musician, 35, made the comments in an interview about her role in charity campaign The Big IF London, which is calling for G8 leaders tackle world hunger.

Miss Klass, who is also a TV presenter, became involved through her work with Save The Children.

She said that if she was on ‘speed dial’ to David Cameron, she would be calling him every day to ask for help.

She added: ‘I could never be a politician. It’s beyond dull. They just sit around and talk. It would be nice if they proved they could do something rather than playing up to the shoddy image we have of them.

‘We expect them to fiddle our taxes, fiddle their expenses and fiddle with their secretaries. Stop fiddling! Do something!’

She described how her background inspired her to help those in poorer countries – and made her angry when she overheard people talking about cleaners as ‘Filipinas’.

Her mother, Bong, is originally from the Philippines, but moved to England where she met Miss Klass’s father, who is Austrian. She said: ‘People go: “get a Filipina”. Hey! That’s a person you’re talking about.

‘I don’t want to do a Filipina girl out of a job but I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve ended up sitting with “the maid” at people’s houses and on shoots because of the way people treat them. My aunties did that job.’

Last year Miss Klass split from her husband, Graham Quinn, describing it as a ‘bereavement’.

He walked out on her after just six months of marriage. The couple had been together for 11 years before their wedding.

Myleene Klass and Gethin Jones will host the Big IF London event, which takes place on June 8 in  Hyde Park. Specially recorded messages from David Beckham and Eddie Izzard will be broadcast to the crowd, and philanthropist Bill Gates and broadcaster Natasha Kaplinsky will speak at the.

They will join thousands of people in Hyde Park to demand David Cameron and the G8 leaders tackle the causes of global hunger. For more event details visit enoughfoodif.org/g8/london
